Three Different Kinds of Honeymoon Trips

September 30, 2010 · Posted in Honeymoon Travel · Comment

The honeymoon is a vacation traditionally taken by newlyweds to spend the start of their married life in an intimate way. Usually taken right after the wedding rites and celebrations, honeymoons are taken to destinations that are considered special and romantic by the couple. This tradition is said to have started at the turn of the 19th century. Seaside resorts in the French Riviera and romantic cities like Rome and Venice were the top honeymoon locations during that time.

Modern couples nowadays research the top honeymoon spots to find that perfect getaway. They do this more for the purpose of spending a few relaxing moments with each other between the hectic schedule of wedding preparations and the quiet uncertainty and anticipation of spending the rest of their lives together. Topping the list of romantic destinations for the typical honeymooners are tropical escapes such as Hawaii, Fiji, Bali, the Caribbean Islands, and the Maldives. Others opt to cuddle in colder climes and stay at ski destinations like St. Moritz in Switzerland or Lake Tahoe in Nevada. All inclusive honeymoon destinations, such as these, are very popular because once the honeymoon is all paid for, there is nothing else for the couple to worry about.

For the more adventure inclined, honeymoon trips to more exotic locales are undertaken, usually backpacking style. For culture, history and perhaps spiritual exposure, newlyweds embark on a trip across India or Nepal. Central and South American destinations like Colombia, Chile, and Costa Rica are also being visited by young honeymooners. For these couples, lazing all day on the beach just won’t do. They’re more interested in doing extreme activities like white water rafting, surfing, or having a road trip in an unfamiliar country. More in-depth activities are also in the itinerary like exploring the culture through local cuisine, festivals, and markets.

The Green Revolution has even made its mark on honeymoons as some couples express their ecological inclinations by going to ecotourism destinations. Ecotourism evolved as a reaction to growing concerns on the impact of conventional tourism on the environment and the social structure of overpopulated tourist attractions. More than just going to remote places and eschewing vacation luxuries, there is also a factor of leaving one’s legacy behind. Newlyweds can plant trees that are named after them, for example. Or participate in coral reef rebuilding in an exotic Southeast Asian island. Other examples are taking a tour in the National Parks of Kenya and Australia or staying at an eco-lodge in Madagascar. Ideally, the money spent on these places goes back to the community and funds their conservation efforts.

Honeymoon vacations are indeed as varied as the personalities of every newlywed embarking on a milestone trip in their lives. It doesn’t matter what type of honeymoon a couple end up choosing. What’s important is their enjoyment of this whole process of discovering the essential things about each other.

Worldwide Travel – 2 Preparation Tips You Shouldn’t Forget

September 30, 2010 · Posted in Travel Insurance, Travel Preparation · Comment

Do you dream about worldwide travel? Most people do. And luckily, travel became more and more affordable in the last 10 – 20 years. Today, most American middle-class families can afford to spend some weeks in foreign countries that earlier generations could only dream about. In fact, travel becomes so accessible that even elderly people can now fulfill their livelong dreams and visit the places they always dreamt about. There are companies that offer everything these people need, from hotel resorts that are specialized in hosting older people to senior citizen travel insurance deals. Most places in the world are easily accessible to most people from the so-called developed world. But with travel being so accessible to everyone, most people seem to take it too easy and forget some of the essentials.

Here are two essential tips that many people forget in their hurry:

1. The Culture
Many people don’t do enough research on the culture before they visit a foreign country. While there are some countries that are very similar in culture, there are other places that couldn’t be more different. This is very important when you travel somewhere. Just take something as normal to us as a gesture. Most gestures can mean something entirely different in another part of the world, sometimes they may even be offensive to people. You certainly want to avoid that, so do your research!

2. The Enjoyment
This is very shocking, but many people actually don’t enjoy their vacations. They take laptops and cell phones with them and spend all their time checking and writing email. They stay so connected to their worries and problems and at home that they can’t relax and enjoy their vacation. So better think twice when you pack these things. Just leave your laptop at home and check email once or twice in an internet cafe.
