Camping With The Grandkids

Bonding with your grandchildren is an activity of inestimable worth, but sometimes it can be hard to find activities that both parties enjoy.  Travel, especially camping, is a great way to bring people closer together with a shared challenge.  Teaching your grandchildren about nature is a great way to not only bring you closer together, but also make them more responsible members of society in the future.

Planning for a camping trip may seem daunting, but it is really relatively simple.  The first step is to choose a campground.  The available amenities and online reviews will help you choose the place that most fits your needs, whether it be a small campground down the street or Yellowstone National Park.  Making a short camping checklist will help you keep track of everything you need to bring, and may help you come up with ideas for your trip.

There are a few precautions you can take if you are concerned about your health on this trip.  Renting a cabin rather than tent camping may allow you to sleep more comfortably.  Be sure to bring a well stocked first aid kit and any medications you or your grandchildren may need.  If you are worried about possible injury, it is easier to get travel insurance over 65 than you may think.  Most of these plans will also cover children under 18 years old for free.

There are many activities you and your grandchildren may enjoy.  Hiking, especially when using a guide book to find edible plants or animal tracks, provides a great time for learning and conversations.  Fishing, playing Frisbee, and cooking over a campfire are all activities that traditions are made of.  If you’re camping with small children, be sure to bring a few comfort items, such as a favorite stuffed animal or doll, favorite pillow, and their special blanket.

Getting away into the wilderness with your grandchildren for a weekend or even longer is a great way to relax and bond with your family.  Their are a wealth of opportunities for passing on family traditions, skills, and memories that your grandchildren will remember for a lifetime.

You will still be able to enjoy the camping experience alongside the luxuries. Some places offer fresh farmer markets where you can purchase food to make on your own campfire at night. While other camps provide dining right there in casual to fancy dining, depending upon your taste. In addition, trails, white water rafting, and even horseback riding. This allows you the experience of the great outdoors alongside the comforts of home when you are ready to relax.
The retreat style camping spots will provide you with so much more than hiking and fishing. They offer massages, yoga, and spa services. You even have the choice of tennis, taking a dip in the pool or playing a few holes of golf if you want. They not only look to make your stay comfortable, but also enjoyable even if you are not the outdoorsy type of person.

Glamping is not only a summer adventure, you can choose to take a winter camping trip and still have all the comforts and warmth you need. During the colder months you can cross country ski, ice skate or even grab your friends for a bit of sledding. Of course, for the real mountain man in your life, he can try his hand as some ice fishing.

It does not matter whether you love to be outdoors or not, with glamping you are able to enjoy the experience of a luxury retreat while experiencing nature in all its beauty at the same time.
