First, you should make sure that you can take the time that you need to look into the safe that they have provided for you in your room.  You want to make sure that you know how you can work the safe and if there is an extra fee for using it.

There are a lot of people that automatically trust the safe in their hotel room.  When you are inside of a hotel room, you have to make sure that you inspect the safe and ensure that it is something that will protect your valuables.

Make sure that you understand how you are going to open the safe again after you have closed it.  You may have to reset the code on the outside of the safe and you want to make sure that you are fully aware of the process before you put your possessions inside.

When you go into your room and you find that you do not have a safe, you should call the front desk.  There are some Salt Lake City hotels that do not provide a safe to each of the rooms but does have a central area where you can keep your valuables.

When there is a central area this means that you are going to have to put your items behind the front desk.  As you do this, you want to make sure that you get a receipt with a description of everything that you are giving to the front desk to store.

Make sure that you can take the time that you need to understand how you are going to be sure about this process.  Only keep your items with the hotel when you are able to see the facility in which the hotel will store the items that you give.

Second, when you are getting ready to leave your hotel room in the morning you have to be wise about the way that you gather up all of your possessions.  Make sure that you take the time that you need to be smart about the process.

You should not be leaving any of your keys, wallets, extra cash, credit cards, jewelry or even travelers checks around.  Find a way to ensure that you can store them safely when you are not in the room for the day.

Make sure that you take the time to walk through your hotel room to look at what you are leaving behind.  Ensure that you are not leaving the valuable items behind so that you can be sure they are there when you return.

Third, you will also want to make sure that you are wise about what you are packing.  There are a lot of people that end up bringing way more than they need on vacation because they feel that they may end up needing everything that they have packed.

When you are on vacation you want to make sure that you can take the time that you need to be smart about the things that you leave at home.  Leave anything that is big, valuable or fragile at home if you can.

You do not want to be traveling with things that will make you a target of a robbery.  When you travel you may want to leave some of your more expensive possessions at home and take a less expensive version of the same product.

Fourth, you should also make sure that you understand how you are going to keep yourself safe.  Make sure that you take the time that you need to ensure that the hotel you are choosing to stay in is going to be safe.

As you are researching safety you should also be sure that you understand how to be safe in your room.  Any time that you are in your room you will want to have the deadbolt drawn and engaged so that others cannot enter.

You will also want to make sure that you understand how you are going to ensure that you do not open the door unless there is someone that you know on the other side.  This way, you can be sure that you do not have intruders coming into your room.
