When backpacking across Europe, going to France should definitely be on your list of countries to visit. It’s one of the main attractions in Europe, due to its glamour, excitement and culture and so should not be missed. The Beaches of Normandy
Those who are traveling through France would not like to miss out on Normandy in their personal travel stories. Normandy is a great destination for family holidays with stretches of sandy beaches to greet your eyes and oodles of outdoor activities. There is everything from theme parks and gardens to zoos and chateaus. With sundry museums dedicated to Roman history, Normandy also has ample attractions that commemorate the World War II.
If you are traveling to France on your own, you might like to visit some of the War memorials and sights. The Gold Beach and Sword Beach are places where about 62000 Britons landed on June 6, 1944. Today, a lot of travelers mention Sword Beach in their personal travel diaries as being a lovely coastal resort with a golden beach and gardens located along the shoreline. There are streets in the town named after soldiers who liberated the place.
The British soldiers landed on Arromanches which contains the remains of the Mulberry Dock. There are lots of souvenirs on sale out here and those traveling to France will find plenty of mementoes to pick up from here. You can have a meal or some refreshments in the cafes and restaurants of this place.
The Benouville village, located inland from Ouistreham, is situated along the Caen Canal. The traveler will note the Pegasus Bridge out here extending on the canal. It is a highlight of a lot of travel stories. This is the place where the 6th British Airborne took over the bridge, with the first house being liberated.
The Utah and Omaha are some of the beaches of the American landing. The Utah Beach Museum contains fantastic displays, whereas the Omaha Beach is the place where many soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country.
